Mitchell County, Kansas

A Kansas county budget dashboard — adopted figures for 2025, not actuals, not a forecast.

Basis — read this first: every figure on this page comes from the County's adopted budget for 2025, certified as duly approved and adopted as the maximum expenditure for the various funds for 2025. Adopted budgets are spending authority, not money spent: the 2023 actuals and 2024 estimates shown for the General Fund are the budget form's own comparison columns, labeled as such. No audit figure is used here.

Debt — 2025 budget statement

The budget's statement of indebtedness lists no general obligation bonds. The county's bonded debt is two hospital revenue-bond issues (Series 2014 and Series 2016, both maturing March 1, 2029). Amounts due in 2025 are $765,000 in principal and $99,175 in interest; amounts due in 2024 were $825,000 in principal and $123,025 in interest. A sheriff-vehicle lease-purchase (Dodge Ram, financed $49,789) has $18,274 in payments due in both 2024 and 2025. The outstanding principal balance of the revenue bonds did not extract legibly from the statement, so no outstanding total is claimed here.

Sources & notes

  • Only source used: Mitchell County, Kansas, 2025 adopted budget (county budget form, county site). Read the budget (PDF).
  • Sum checks: the tax-levy authority column sums to $15,063,274 and the ad valorem column exactly to $8,742,536; tax-levy plus non-budgeted authority sums exactly to the $17,058,315 certificate total; the General Fund department lines sum exactly to $6,477,748.
  • What is missing: the revenue bonds' outstanding principal balance did not extract legibly, so no outstanding debt total is claimed. No audit or actuals for 2025 are used — the comparison columns are the budget form's own figures.
  • County palette: no verified Mitchell County palette was on file, so this page uses the neutral Hometown Numbers dark-glass theme rather than a county color.
