Finney County, Kansas

A Kansas county budget dashboard - adopted figures for 2026, not actuals, not a forecast.

Basis — read this first: every figure on this page comes from the County's adopted budget for 2026, assisted by Lewis, Hooper & Dick, LLC. Adopted budgets are spending authority, not money spent. One discrepancy is disclosed: the General Fund page prints the Appraiser line at $751,710, but the department's own detail components sum to $757,710 and the fund's group totals only reconcile with $757,710 - this page uses $757,710 and says so wherever the Appraiser figure appears.

General Fund

The General Fund's 2026 authority of $12,901,250 is the sum of three groups: Group 1 at $8,131,542, Group 2 at $3,399,620, and Group 3 at $1,370,088. Budgeted receipts other than ad valorem tax are $4,556,252, and with a beginning balance of $5,659,135, resources available are $10,215,387. The tax required is $2,685,863, plus delinquent compensation of $94,005, giving the ad valorem figure of $2,779,868. Disclosed discrepancy: the fund page prints the Appraiser line at $751,710, but the Appraiser's detail components (personnel $562,183, contractual $140,087, commodities $36,440, capital outlay $19,000) sum to $757,710, and only $757,710 makes Group 1 reconcile - so $757,710 is used here.

Debt

The Statement of Indebtedness shows no general obligation bonds, no revenue bonds, and no other debt - all totals are $0. The county's only indebtedness is lease-purchases: an HVAC System Upgrade balance of $3,760,000 and 2020 Caterpillar Motor Graders of $41,948, for a total of $3,801,948 at January 1, 2025, with payments due of $569,415 in 2025 and $525,914 in 2026. Road & Bridge expenditures of $7,843,108 comprise public works of $7,393,108 plus transfers out of $450,000; its tax required is $5,539,479 plus $193,882 delinquent compensation, giving $5,733,361.

Sources & notes

  • Only source used: Finney County, Kansas, adopted budget for 2026 (certificate, budget summary, General Fund pages, and Statement of Indebtedness). Read the budget (PDF).
  • Sum checks: the certificate authority and ad valorem columns, the General Fund group totals, the General Fund tax requirement plus delinquent compensation, the Road & Bridge tax computation, and the lease-purchase balances all reconcile exactly to their printed totals. The one disclosed exception: the Appraiser fund-page line ($751,710) does not match its detail components ($757,710).
  • County palette: no verified Finney County palette was on file, so this page uses the neutral Hometown Numbers dark-glass theme rather than a county color.
